The Indy Public Safety Foundation maintains a non-remunerated Board of Directors representing a large cross section of the community.  The Board conscientiously and carefully maintains oversight of strategic planning, program selection & review, long-range budgeting, and overall operations.  The strength of the Board of Directors demonstrates the importance of public safety to the business and community leaders in our city.

Current Board Members

Melissa Proffitt, Chair
 
Melissa Proffitt is the Office Managing Partner of the Indianapolis Office of Ice Miller LLP, former Managing Partner of the Firm, co-chairs the Employee Benefits Practice Group, chairs the Agribusiness Group, chairs the Energy Group, and is responsible for business development initiatives for the Firm.  Melissa concentrates her practice in employee benefits, on both regional and international levels, with a focus on welfare benefit plans and qualified plans, including plan formation and design.  Her practice as chair of the Agribusiness Group and Energy Group involve representation of numerous agriculture and energy related clients with regard to all legal needs.  Melissa is currently a Board member on 14 business and community related boards.  She volunteers her time for causes supporting economic development, diversity, and women's issues, and is also very active politically.  She has received numerous awards for her leadership in the community and for her legal accomplishments.  Melissa holds a Bachelor of Arts, with distinction, from Indiana University-Bloomington and a Juris Doctorate from the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis, cum laude.  Melissa is a Member of the Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Eta Sigma, and Alpha Lambda Delta honorary fraternities.

 
Nicholas Ball, Treasurer
 
Mr. Ball is the retired Chief of Strategic Initiatives for Indianapolis EMS and is a Tactical Medic with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s SWAT and EOD teams.  He previously was a paramedic with the Telluride, Colorado Fire Protection District and a member of the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Department Search & Rescue team.  Nick practiced as a CPA for three years, spent over nine years in commercial banking, was the CFO of a technology company and then a co-founder and CFO of a high-tech start-up.  Mr. Ball received his B.S. in business from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, completed the Executive Education Program in Corporate Financial Management from Harvard Graduate School of Business, and received his A.S. degree in Paramedic Science from the Indiana University School of Medicine.  He is a member of the Indiana CPA Society and a registered paramedic with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
 
 
 
 
Dr. James Danko
 
 
Since becoming the 21st President of Butler University in 2011, James Danko has devoted himself to the development and realization of the University's strategic plan, Butler 2020. This ambitious plan guides Butler toward national recognition as a thought-leader in transformative, student-centered higher education by 2020.

Mike Dilts
 
Mike joined Shiel Sexton in 1985 after graduating from Purdue in 1981 and a five year period working with a national construction company in Boston.  Mike worked through project management, account management, and business development before leading operations. 
 
As C.E.O. and President, Mike is responsible for assuring that operations will meet and exceed Shiel Sexton’s strategic goals and objectives.  He understands Owners’ cost and schedule concerns, as well as, architectural design and contractor constructability issues.  Owners and architectural firms frequently seek his input and direction for their projects.  Mike is responsible for a staff of over 350 individuals serving as Vice Presidents, Senior Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Field superintendents, Carpenters and Laborers. 
 
 
 
 
Rick Fuson
 
Since joining the Pacers’ organization in 1984, Rick Fuson has been influential in shaping events within Market Square Arena, Bankers Life Fieldhouse and many other events elsewhere in Indianapolis.
 
A graduate of Indiana University and a life-long resident of Indianapolis, he joined the staff of Market Square Arena in 1984 as director of special events and was promoted the following year to vice president. Fuson helped oversee the Pacers’ move to Bankers Life Fieldhouse in September 2000.  He was promoted to Executive Senior Vice President of Pacers Sports & Entertainment in November 2001. Rick was named Chief Operating Officer in April 2008.  In September 2014, he became President/COO.  In his current role, Fuson is responsible for operation of all aspects of the business and facilities elements of Pacers Sports & Entertainment.
 
 

 
Bob Gatto
 
Mr. Gatto is a Market Partner for the franchisee Ultra Steak, overseeing several restaurant operations, including multiple Texas Roadhouse locations.  He began working in the restaurant industry nearly 40 years ago, working through the ranks, holding a wide range of positions, and ultimately becoming Vice President of Operations for Ultra Steak.  Bob attended Hillsdale University and holds a real estate license in the state of Indiana.   He is very active in the community and serves on numerous boards including the Indiana Restaurant and Lodging Association and the Lawrence Township Foundation. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Jeffrey Harrison
 
Jeffrey A. Harrison is the President and Chief Executive Officer for Citizens Energy Group, responsible for, in conjunction with the Board of Directors and Officers, establishing and maintaining the vision and strategic direction for the organization; ensuring a culture which maintains a strong focus on customer needs while demonstrating high regard for employees, teamwork, continual improvement, and integrity; and ensuring a responsible commitment to the vitality and success of Central Indiana.  Jeffrey has served the utility industry over 23 years.
 
Jeffrey received his Bachelor’s of Science in electrical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1989.  He also received his Master’s of Business Administration degree from Indiana University in 1996.  Before joining Citizens Energy Group, Jeffrey spent 13 years with Indianapolis Power & Light in various positions.
 
 
 

John Hirschman
 
As President and CEO of Browning Investments, John oversees the strategic direction of all facets of the company including development, consulting, financing, construction, acquisitions, dispositions and property management. At home, John’s responsibilities include trying (oftentimes ineffectively) to remember the name of his youngest daughter’s hundred-plus stuffed animals and attempting to keep up with his oldest daughter during jogs through the neighborhood.               
 
John previously served as Director of Real Estate Development at Browning. In this capacity, John managed Browning’s joint venture partnerships with Duke Realty and Prologis and oversaw the development of multiple parks and significant industrial, office and mixed-use facilities.  Prior to joining Browning, John practiced law in the real estate groups at Faegre Baker Daniels LLP in Indianapolis, Indiana and Dentons (formerly Sonnenschein Nath and Rosenthal) in Chicago, Illinois.
 
John received his J.D. from the New York University School of Law. He obtained a Master of Arts in English Literature from the University of Alabama and a Bachelor of Arts in the same field from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.

Jerry Jones, Secretary
 
Mr. Jones is President and CEO of Cannon IV, Inc., an independent Hewlett-Packard printer dealer. Cannon IV is headquartered in Indianapolis, with additional locations in Ohio and Texas. Cannon IV sales are nationwide.  Jerry, along with his father, Richard Jones, founded Cannon IV in 1974.   In 1997, Jerry received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.  Cannon IV’s business and civic awards include: Indiana Small Business of the Year, Indiana Business Ethics Award, Spirit of Service Award presented by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and One of the “Best Places to Work in Indiana” in 2009.  Jerry sits on the boards of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, Marian University Board of Trustees, Noble of Indiana, Scecina Memorial High School, and INTEC.  Jerry received a B.S. from Indiana University.
 
 
 
 
 
 
David Lewis
 
David P. Lewis is the Vice President-Global Taxes and Assistant Treasurer at Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis, Indiana.  In this position, Mr. Lewis has global responsibility for all aspects of the Company’s tax and tax-related matters.  Prior to 1988, Mr. Lewis engaged in the private practice of law, focusing primarily in the areas of taxation, securities, banking and corporate law. 
 
Mr. Lewis graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1977, Wabash College in 1981 with a major in Economics, and from the Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington in 1984.  He is admitted to practice law before the Indiana State Bar and the Bars of the Federal District Courts, Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana.  He is a member of the Board of Trustees at Wabash College.

 
 
 
Andrew Luck
 
Mr. Luck is an American football quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for Stanford University, won the Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award as college football's player of the year, and was recognized as an All-American.  He was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in both 2010 and 2011.  Mr. Luck graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelors degree in architectural design. 

 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Senator Richard Lugar
 
Richard Lugar is the President of the Lugar Center, a non-profit organization focusing on nuclear non-proliferation, food security, and other critical issues.  Lugar also recently announced the creation of the Lugar Academy at the University of Indianapolis, which includes a Washington semester internship program for UIndy students and other student leaders.  Lugar was also recently named a Professor of Practice and Distinguished Scholar at the new School of Global and International Studies at Indiana University.  Lugar graduated first in his class at both Shortridge High School in Indianapolis and Denison University in Granville, Ohio.  He attended Pembroke College at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, studying politics, philosophy and economics. Lugar volunteered for the U.S. Navy in 1957, ultimately serving as an intelligence briefer for Admiral Arleigh Burke, chief of Naval Operations.  During his tenure in the United States Senate, he exercised leadership on critical issues such as food security, nuclear non-proliferation, energy independence and free trade.  He holds 46 honorary degrees from colleges and universities in 15 states and the District of Columbia, and was the fourth person ever named Outstanding Legislator by the American Political Science Association.
 
 
Chief Ernest Malone (**)
 
Since 2014, Ernest Malone has been serving as the 42nd Chief of the Indianapolis Fire Department.  Ernest Malone 51 was born and raised in Indianapolis. Chief Malone has a Master’s Degree in Management from Indiana Wesleyan, an Associate Degree in Fire Science from Ivy Tech, Executive Fire Officer Certification from the National Fire Academy and is the 1st Indianapolis Firefighter ever to receive the designation of Chief Fire Officer from the Center for Public Safety Excellence

Dr. Robert Manuel
 
Dr. Manuel is the President of the University of Indianapolis.  Dr. Manuel came to the University of Indianapolis in July 2012 from Georgetown University, where he was associate provost and dean of the School of Continuing Studies.  At New York University from 2000 to 2006, prior to Georgetown, Manuel served in the office of the Vice President for Enrollment Services, and also held the positions of Chief Information Officer, Assistant Dean and Clinical Associate Professor at NYU's School of Continuing and Professional Studies.  Manuel has a bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science from Allegheny College, a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Syracuse University and a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from New York University.
 
 
 
 

 
Allison Melangton
 
Allison Melangton joined Hulman Motorsports Corporation as Senior Vice President on November 1, 2014 and is responsible for overall production of major events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, including those during the Month of May, the Indianapolis 500, the Brickyard 400, and Verizon INDYCAR Series special events, such as the pre-season kickoff and post-season celebration parties.
 
Melangton served on the Executive Leadership team of Indiana Sports Corp for twenty years, serving the last two years as President from September 1, 2012 until October of 2014.  Four of those years were serving as CEO and president of the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee from 2008 through 2012.
 

Dr. Charles Miramonti (**)
 
Charles Miramonti, M.D., is chief of Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (EMS), an emergency medicine physician at Wishard-Eskenazi Health and an assistant professor of clinical emergency medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
Board certified in emergency medicine, Dr. Miramonti has served in numerous leadership capacities, including division chief for the IU School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine’s Division of Out of Hospital Care and deputy medical director for the Wishard Ambulance Service and the Indianapolis Fire Department. He has also held similar positions with the Wayne Township Fire Department. Dr. Miramonti is the founder and serves as chief medical officer of MESH, a groundbreaking partnership of health care entities working to identify shared risks and develop standardized training and programs to prepare organizations to work together during an emergency.
 
 
 

Dayton Molendorp, Vice Chair
 
Mr. Molendorp is chairman of the board and former CEO of American United Mutual Insurance Holding Company (AUMIHC), the parent of OneAmerica Financial Partners, Inc.  He leads OneAmerica’s nationwide network of companies and affiliates.  Molendorp has more than 37 years of experience in the insurance and financial services industry.  Dayton has a Bachelor of Science degree in math and business administration from Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa and served four years in the U.S. Air Force.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
John Myrland
 
John S. Myrland is Senior Vice President and Community Engagement Executive for the Central Indiana Region of Old National Bank. In that role, Myrland works to enhance the bank’s relationships in the region with customers, non-customers, not-for-profits, and local government agencies in Central Indiana. Prior to joining Old National in October of 2014, Myrland worked for the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce for 25 years, the last 14 as its president, then served as pastor of McCordsville United Methodist Church from 2006 to 2014. Myrland serves on a number of other community boards, including The Oaks Academy, the University of Indianapolis, and The Indianapolis Indians. He is a graduate of Indiana University and Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary at Northwestern University.
 
 

John Neighbours
 
A Partner at Faegre Baker Daniels, Mr. Neighbours serves on the Executive Committee of the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce and the Board of the United Way of Central Indiana, where he is the immediate past chair (for 2006 and 2007).  Neighbours was also the founding board chair for the Charles A. Tindley Accelerated Learning High School and is co-chair for the Legal Committee of Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis, co-chair of the Central Indiana Transit Task Force and a member of the boards of the Indianapolis Zoological Society and the Christian Theological Seminary.  He was chairman of the board for the Zoological Society from 1987-1991.  John received a B.A. from Depauw University and J.D. from Indiana University Robert H. Dane Nutty, Executive Director (*)
 
Dane serves as Executive Director of the Indy Public Safety Foundation and as such, an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Board.  Prior to joining the Foundation, Dane served as the Executive Director of the Indianapolis Police Foundation.  Dane has spent much of his career in nonprofit and health care administration, most recently managing community benefit investments for Indiana University Health. 
 
Dane then married a police officer and thus joined the relatively small group of people who know intimately the dangerous and often unrecognized work and sacrifice our local police officers make to keep the community safe.  As a supportive spouse, he quickly realized the relatively untapped resources in our local community of individuals and businesses who want to support first responders, but do not know how to best engage.
 
Dane received a B.A. in Chemistry from Wabash College and a Master of Health Administration from the Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI.
 

Rob Pruitt (**)   
 
Mr. Pruitt, CPA, is the managing partner of BKD, LLP in Indianapolis.  He is a board member of Marian University’s Academy for Teaching and Learning Leadership, Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce and was a founding board member of Academy of Finance at Hamilton Southeastern Schools.  He was previously a board member for TechPoint and TechPoint PAC.  He is a member of the Indiana CPA Society, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee and the United Way Tocqueville Society.  Rob formerly served as a member of United Way Development Committee for several annual campaigns, treasurer of Phi Gamma Delta House Corporation and treasury and budgeting chair for RCA Tennis Championships.  He earned his B.S. degree in accounting from Indiana University, Bloomington.
 
 
 
 
 

Troy Riggs
 
Mr. Riggs has served as both the Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police for the City of Indianapolis.  He has also served as the Director of Public Safety Outreach for the Public Policy Institute at IUPUI and is currently the Vice President of the Sagamore Institute, an Indianapolis-based think tank.  Mr. Riggs has more than 20 years of public safety experience, working his way from police recruit to Assistant Chief at Louisville PD over 20 years, then serving as an Assistant City Manager and Chief of Police in Corpus Christi, Texas.  He has also served as a press secretary for a Judge/Executive and has been a liaison to local, state, and federal governments.  Troy has an EMBA from Sullivan University and a Political Science degree from the University of Louisville.
 
 
 
 
 

Chief Bryan Roach (**)
 
Chief Bryan Roach was appointed as Chief of Police of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in January 2017.  
 
Prior to serving as the agency's top executive, Chief Roach has served IMPD in every merit and appointed rank, most recently as Assistant Chief of Administration.  
 
Roach was instrumental in implementing IMPD's Narcan program, which has saved 200 people from overdose deaths. He has helped oversee the department's data center, one of IMPD's key initiatives.
 
He was born and raised in Indianapolis, and joined the department in 1991. He was a North District patrol officer, a narcotics detective and SWAT officer. He has received two Medals of Valor and the Medal of Merit for instances when he was shot at, as well as working on administrative and policy issues.
 
 
 
 

Shirley Romine
 
Ms. Romine is Broker/Owner of Alliance Real Estate Group in Indianapolis. Ms. Romine represents both buyers and sellers in Indianapolis, as well as the surrounding communities of Carmel, Fishers, Zionsville, Westfield, and Noblesville.  She specializes in a variety of properties, including residential homes, condos, townhomes, luxury homes, waterfront properties, gated communities, and golf course homes.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Joel Ross
 
Mr. Ross is a thirty-year veteran of the restaurant industry.  He recently completed a fifteen-year career with Texas Roadhouse.  Joel served as the Managing Director of the Global Development Group at Texas Roadhouse where he led the company’s expansion into international markets.  Prior to his role as Managing Director, Joel was the Chief of Staff at Texas Roadhouse and worked closely with the Chief Executive Officer.  Before joining Texas Roadhouse, Joel enjoyed a very successful eleven year career with Bennigan’s Irish American Grill and Tavern. He attended High School in Naples, Italy, and was educated at the University of Maryland in Munich, Germany and the University of Texas at Austin.

 
 
 
 
 

Dr. Nichole Wilson
 
Mrs. Wilson is the Director of Physical Therapy and Rehab & Sports Medicine at Community Health Network in Indianapolis.  In this role, she is responsible for the strategic growth, business development, marketing strategies, and financial success for 14 clinics that offer physical, occupational, and speech therapy services.  She also spearheads Community’s Sports Medicine program, which provides sports medicine staff and services to 14 schools in the Indianapolis area.  Wilson is a graduate of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series (SKL), serves on the SKL advisory council, and serves on the board of College Mentors for Kids, Harrison College, and the Children’s TherAplay Foundation.  She has a bachelor’s degree in sports medicine from DePauw University, master’s and doctoral degrees in physical therapy from University of Indianapolis, and an MBA from Purdue University.
